We launched our membership drive
on March 11th with an ambitious goal of recruiting 1000 members!
This effort requires the full support of community leaders,
members, businesses and organizations. We are committed to
making every effort necessary to provide good healthy affordable
food to the Harlem community this year! This Co-op is only
going to happen if we make it happen. A new path in Harlem
has arrived, are you ready?
All are welcome to become a member-owner
of the Harlem Natural Food Co-op. Members are not required
to work. The store will be open to member and non-member shoppers,
but member-owners enjoy the following Benefits!

- Check writing privileges up
to $50 above amount of purchase
- Up to 15% discount on bulk
items
- Free delivery service within
Harlem
- Free pick-up service (call
us and we'll have your groceries ready!)
- Sales flyer mailings
- Free admission to workshops
and events
- Free health screenings
- Free nutritional consultations
- Voting rights in the Co-operative
- Involvement in a member-owned
and operated cooperative serving our community and the co-op
movement
In addition to the above benefits,
member-owners receive Refunds at the end of the fiscal year,
based on their patronage throughout the year. Owners may have
refunds distributed in cash or in equity.
Again, members are not required
to work in order to shop! However, work opportunities are
available. Working members are needed to carry out member
services. Discounts will apply to those who choose to work
a minimum of 2 hours per week in a regularly-scheduled position.
Types of Membership
Individual: $100 refundable equity investment upon
joining, and $25 annually. Identification must be presented
upon joining.
Household Family: Two
adults from the same household will share one membership and
make one refundable equity investment of $100 upon joining,
and $25 annually. Both names appear on the membership card.
Identification of both parties must be presented upon joining.
Disabled: A refundable
equity investment of $50 upon joining, and $15 annually. if
your ability to produce income is significantly impaired by
a disability. Proof of disability must be presented upon joining.
If shopping yourself is difficult, you may designate another
person to shop for you.
Low income: A refundable
equity investment of $50 upon joining and $15 annually, if
you receive one of the following types of income-based assistance,
Food Stamps (EBT), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medicaid,
WIC, Family Health+, or Section 8 housing subsidy. Proof of
income-based status must be presented upon joining.
Senior: A refundable equity
investment of $50 upon joining, and $15 annually, if you are
age 62 or over. Identification must be presented upon joining.
Special Circumstance:
If you are unemployed (not by choice), and without familial
support and/or financial resources, underemployed (hours of
pay is too low to make a reasonable living, and not by choice),
you can work at the co-op to pay membership fees.
Student: A refundable
equity investment of $50 upon joining, and $15 annually. Identification
must be presented upon joining.
Business or Community Organization:
$100 refundable equity investment upon joining, and $25 annually.
A designated representative may shop for business-related
purposes only.

The membership office is located
at Raw Soul, 348 W. 145th Street, Harlem, NY. Raw Soul is
open Tuesdays through Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
and Sundays from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.
