WHERE WE ARE
Development Stages
The Food Co-op Model consists of 3 stages--Organizing, Feasibility
& Planning, and Implementation. We are in the Feasibility
and Planning Stage. The Board of Directors have prepared a
business plan for financing and operations. We have conducted
a feasibility survey and need to do have a feasibility study
conducted to assess financial capacity, market potential and
internal readiness. The feasibility study will cost about
$10,000. Once the study is approved and funding procured,
we can proceed to the implementation stage.
Membership
Members-owners are the foundation of the co-op. We had a very
produictive and fun open house on Sunday, June 29th and 11
new members signed up, bringing our total to 94 member-owners!
To open we need 500 members to
start the application process with the Co-op bank. We are
asking members to make a commitment to bring in 5 new members
starting TODAY. That would give us 470 new members, which
is more than enough to meet our goals. If you have been thinking
about joining the co-op, please join NOW.
Goal
Our goal is to open by 2011. Our success in reaching our goal
depends on our ability to work together as a community to
bring this project to fruition. Right now a few people are
doing all of the work. We need all owners to be involved in
planning, implementing and operating this Co-op.
Plan of Action
To contnue our membership drive through participation at health
fairs and community events, tabling and holding quarterly
open houses. We are planning a fund raising event in October
2008 to raise funds for the feasibility study. We will have
fundraising events every six months. We will continue to apply
for grants and seek new sources of funding.
